Ballingall & Son Ltd Round Chrome

Ballingall & Son Ltd chrome tray dating from the 1930s. The Pleasance Brewery was founded in Dundee before 1750 and was acquired by William Ballingall in 1844 trading under the name of Ballingall & Son. In the late 1800s under the leadership of his son Hugh Ballingall, the Pleasance Brewery was enlarged and rebuilt and a second brewery, the Park Brewery, was added in 1881. The Company was registered as Ballingall & Son Ltd in 1897. In 1964 brewing ceased when the business was taken over by Drybrough & Co. Ltd which continued to supply Ballingall's pubs with their own beers brewed in Edinburgh. Drybrough & Co. Ltd were themselves acquired by Watney Mann Ltd in 1965 and in 1968 Ballingall's licensed houses were purchased by them. Ballingall & Son Ltd ceased to trade in 1968. The manufacturer's mark simply states - Made in England
