The Argyle Brewery is reputed to have been established in 1710. The Company was registered in 1896 to acquire the Argyle Brewery based in Edinburgh and Hope & King wine and spirit merchants based in Glasgow.
Archibald Campbell, Hope & King Ltd was acquired by Whitbread & Co. Ltd in 1967. Its public houses were sold to Drybrough & Co. Ltd, Vaux & Associated Breweries Ltd and Thomas Usher & Son Ltd in 1969 and brewing ceased in 1970.
